The island is situated on the southeast of Bali and hosts a couple of sandy child-friendly beaches with sparkling shallow water that makes Sanur an ideal hub for a family vacation. Nevertheless, it offers a variety of good restaurants, charming bars, and live music events for a dazzling evening.



How to get to Sanur?

Sanur is located within the Bali’s vicinity and is about 20 minutes’ taxi ride away from Ngurah Rai International Airport.

There are numerous metered taxis available around the island that are willing to transport you there.

The main road Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai is the western boundary of Sanur; which makes it one of the easiest places to reach as there are several exit points with road signs from this main road into the center of Sanur.

If you’re coming from Kuta or Legian; spare about 30 minutes driving time, and about 45 minutes from Ubud or Seminyak and about 15 minutes from Denpasar Downtown.

There are also various shuttle buses serving to/from Sanur from the north and south as well as Denpasar's Tegal terminal.

Direct bus transfers from Ubud, Kuta, Candidasa, Padang Bai, and Lovina are available through Perama Company which is located in Jalan Hangtuah, Sanur.

Getting Around Sanur

Getting around Sanur is pretty smooth as the main street here “Jalan Danau Tamblingan” has multiple cars, bicycles, and motorbike rentals.

Metered taxis are also everywhere and local bemos constantly run up and down both Jalan Danau Poso and Jalan Danau Tamblingan.

Walking is also preferable in Sanur since distances are quite short and the streets are relatively calm with a spectacular paved beachfront path along the whole stretch of the area.

Blanjong Pillar

Dating back to 914 AD, this fascinating stone is one of the top attractions in Sanur and the oldest historical monument in Bali that was erected at the time of Sri Kesari Waemadewa, Bali’s first king.

The Blanjoing Pillar is located on a resting street off Jalan Danau Poso, once you’re in this road; go ahead until you find yourself facing Pura Belanjong then take the alleyway on the left side to reach the stone.

Tour Museum Le Mayeur

This is a museum that once was the house of Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres, a Belgian expatriate who lived in Bali until 1958, and it is considered one of the most interesting attractions in Sanur.

The museum showcases Le Mayeur’s unique art collections which most of them are paintings of his wife who was a Balinese dancer.

Visit Bali Orchid Garden

The Orchid Garden is not really in Sanur, yet, it’s located pretty close; around 3 kilometers away on the main road that leads out of the Jalan Ngurah Rai area.

The garden presents a unique collection of thousands of orchids of different shades and colors that you may not spot elsewhere.


Chill out on Pantai Indah

Based on locals’ advice; this is by far the most beautiful beach on Sanur Island blessed with soft golden sands and a clean calm space that makes it perfect for relaxing, swimming, and sunbathing.

The beach also hosts a nice café called Warung Pantai Indah that is famous for the best beers and the freshest coconuts.

Pantai Indah is located at the heart of Sanur, and you can reach it either through Jalan Danau Tamblingan then go round onto the huge road in front of the popular Bali Deli or through walking along the coastline from another beach.

Sanur Beach

Sanur beach is one of the most iconic beaches in Bali; a peaceful refugee where you can contemplate beautiful sunset views and enjoy the calm sparkling waters.

The beach is most famous for the popular Annual Bali Kites Festival and the best time to visit is during October. The Le Mayeur Museum is also placed here.





Pandawa Beach

A beach hidden by limestone cliffs is certainly worth checking out! Nevertheless, the beach is also called Five Pandawas referring to the cliffs facing the ocean and each engraved with the heroes of the epic Mahabharata.

Pandawa Beach is located around 8 km from Nusa Dua and considered the best of the best. Some of the activities you can do there is sunbathing, jet-skiing, parasailing, and banana boating.


Cemara Beach

Marvelous blue gradient waters and the softest sands are the highlights of Cemara Beach, located on Bali’s east side in Denpasar. Imagine being welcomed with a gorgeous view of the horizon and equally magical shades of seawater and surrounding red corals.

We would say the period from May to August are the best months to visit due to the ideal weather conditions. July is also an interesting time to travel to Sanur as it’s the time of the International Kite Festival where you get to watch hundreds of giant colorful kites flying high in the blue skies of Sanur.
