Tumpek Wayang 2023

It is the day when all puppets are taken out of their wooden boxes and up to the stages to perform!

Tumpek Wayang is held every six months all over Bali. When puppeteers will come together to perform purification rites (ruwatan) for the purpose of purifying their bodies both physically and mentally.

The importance of this ritual is also owing to that it represents various transitions on the Balinese traditional calendar, and it sets as a connection between the following days: Saniscara, Kajeng, Kilown, and Wayang.

Moreover, devout Balinese celebrate the day as the one that marks the birth of Lord Kala- the God of time.
