Mekotekan Rituals

An ancient tradition that coincides with Kuningan which is an island-wide holiday. This tradition features all the male villagers of Munggu gathering together with long and hard bamboo poles and carrying them to the streets. This tradition gathers thousands of happy participants and watchers on the streets of the village, as they reenact the victorious battles of Blambangan war. All the poles’ ends meet in the mid-air finally forming a shape of a pyramid where friendly battles occur as they race for climbing up the mountain and face off at the top.
